besides war and politics what is history?

i know history is more than war and politics but i can put it into words.

How ordinary people lived
The development of knowledge and Man's understanding of the World around him
The spread of different religions and beliefs
How natural resources like the sea, the availability of agricultural land, minerals and navigable rivers influenced how cities and whole countries developed

How we came to be what we are today

History is the study of the significant events of the past so as to better understand what it is to be human. Its a shame that so much of our history includes warfare and dirty politics but maybe we can change that with the right kind of motivation. If we ignore the past we are doomed to keep on repeating the same mistakes.

History is finding out your heritage - where you come from, and the people who came before you. It's finding out what is going on around you based on how things happened before. It's finding the cycles in the world, and being able to avoid the mistakes, or at least deal with them better when it's our turn. History is learning about people and places and times just like now that happened differently from now, so that we can better know how to live now.
