History is the winners' version of the truth. Whether it comes from the field of battle, or by the ballot box, the loser gets little notice for their failure to win a decisive battle. In other words, success and failure are fundamental in recording human events. In todays society, the verification of facts is often qualified by the statement", I saw it on television, so it must be true." Woe be to those who value the truth, because the editing process is so fundamental to the news we get that it is distorted, edited and regurgitated to the point that it has little relationship to whether an event has really occurred.

History as we know it is a record of past events. However, it also pertains to current and future events (such as what's happening right this moment all around us to as simple a wedding next week).
