i took it to chevy now 7 times and they advised me that there's no problem although now it's not starting on a pretty much daily basis, i did what the last best answer said and had it towed to them for diagnosis while it wasn't starting and once it got there they started it to move ti out the way then when they ran the test the circuits where all working so they couldn't find the problem. im convinced that they have no idea what they're doing since i told them when i brought it in about the problem and that it needed diagnosis while it wasn't starting but there's no communication between the guy on the phone and the service guy that started it when i told them not to. so how can i get it diagnosed and fixed? im really pullling out my hair over this cause i've only had it 6 months and so many people have looked at it.

please help

the car will not start, lights and controls all come on but no sound or start but will start after about 30 - 45 mins. I called a tow truck once and he uphooked the battery and reattached it then it started, he said you need to do that to reset the system but now it does it at least once a day. can i get some help please? or a good mechanic in Bakersfield,Ca? i'm now looking for my 8th mechanic to try and figure out the problem before i get stranded in the desert or something.

You didn't give enough info for me to really know whats going on. Will the starter NOT kick in? Will the engine NOT turn over? Does the engine spin over but doesn't start? Do you hear ANY noise when you try to start it?

You might need to just find a good shade tree mechanic and let him check it out. Sometimes EXPERIENCE is the best tool. These car dealers are loaded up with young people that have been through school and taught to follow a game plan involving computers and such. A starting problem isn't that hard to find and repair. All it takes is just a little COMMON SENSE and a little EXPERIENCE to figure it out. A good shade tree will have that. Good luck. Pops

In good ol' Hot Bakersfield Huh!
I will ask a couple of questions
DOES IT CRANK!
1 Does it CRANK first in the morning. YES
2.Does it CRANK after a short trip. NO
3. Do you have to wait for it to CRANK. YES
4. wait more than an hour and it CRANK evertime. YES
Let it cool does it CRANKt. YES

If you answered like I did the it is starter swelling, the Vette and caddys are notorious for this due to their hot engine compartments. Replace the starter & Solenoid.
I saw your comment that the lights stay bright while trying to crank. your dealer is too busy for your business.

It is obviously in the starting circuit.

Does it turn over...
meaning it cranks but no start. if so I would replpace the ignition module as heat affects that too, Fuel issues are probably low on the list unless it is a pump problem but that usually goes out and stays out. the cooling of the engine compartment is the key here. Vapor lock on a electrick fuel pumped car is rare as the bubble gets pumped by. If you hear the whrrr of the pump when you only turn on the key it is not fuel.

Don't just take it somewhere and say OH well maybe next time.Let them keep it until they find the problem. It's OK your baby will be fine...

Call the regional rep for Chevy and voice your disgust over the service dept. try to get it repaired for nothing as they want your repeat business. You have paid for several towing trips and the service Dept. is not very customer friendly. They are just stupid and don't realize you really don't have your car towed for the heck of it....
Wish you were in Kansas City, I'd drive the thing for a couple of days and get the thing to act up on me...THEN FIX IT...

a threat issues are starter solenoid, starter relay, or ignition swap, perhaps a software computing device chip and much less possibly the till now stated transmission or brake interlocks. right this is the difficulty: it could't be clinically determined if the vehicle is commencing using fact the circuit is obviously working then. it could purely be clinically determined whilst the circuit isn't working using fact then the meters can come across a break in the circuit. concerning the only thank you to get this clinically determined is to have your motor vehicle towed to a mechanic whilst it occurs next time and not attempt to restart it. confident it particularly is an costly discomfort in the butt yet so is changing components blindly. My journey is this might take place further and extra generally and at last circulate away you stranded, perhaps in a unfavorable place. connect Allstate Motor club ($a million for the 1st 3 months) and have it towed whilst it occurs back, allstate provide you unfastened towing as much as $250 properly worth! undesirable problem, stable success!

really need more info on what it is doing if it is not turning over sometimes check the starter if it is sloww cranking check the battery if it spins good and dont start check the plugs wires and cap check the flow of gas check the ignition moduel located inside the distributor that is very common on these cars it will allow it to start some days and wont other days and this is something that a machine will not find and this sounds like it may be your problem feel free to e-mail me with any questions you might have

This is gonna sound stupid, but are your battery connectors good and tight? I'd assume they are. Also, may want to have your ignition circuits checked for broken wires and such. Sounds like you bought the car used. It possibly could've been stolen or even has problems with its anti theft chip in the key. Is hard to say. Hope these ideas help. Good luck.
