I don't always put my deodorant on in front of a mirror, but recently I did. I have these long scab looking marrks on my underarm on one side in the creases of my skin.

On the other other underarm are similar scab looking marks, but just not in the fold of my skin.

Do you think this might be an irritation from my deodorant? Have any of you had anything like this before? What should I put on the scab looking places?

I currently use Ban deodorant, but if you know of a sensitive skin deodorant, I'd like to hear about it.

If you just have a smart elec comment, please don't answer. Thanks!

Sounds like a reaction to the deodorant. Don't wear any when you can get by with it for a few days--not sure of some sensitive skin brand, but get one that is less powerful. Wash your underarms well and then put on some vaseline, to keep the skin from cracking open, or if you are needing to wear shirts with sleeves, try some calamine lotion on it. Both are not harsh and help protect the skin.

Antipersperirants can be VERY drying- their whole goal is to keep your armpits dry! In addition, the aluminum ion used to prevent sweating has been closely linked to breast cancer... So, overall, antipersperents are bad stuff!

I agree with the other user that reccomended Toms of Maine. It's very soothing, and all natural ingredients. It may need reapplication about halfway through the day, but unless you are really odeferus, it really should not be a problem. It will not keep you from sweating, but it's very healthy and normal to sweat: my way to prevent sweat stains is to buy clothing that dosn't look sweaty when I sweat! Sweat is healthy, and normal.

I get dry skin all the time, even in my underarms (though much less severely now that I went natural). Every night, to combat it, I put some cocoa butter all over my arms and armpits before I go to bed. Any non-fragerenced oil will do- go to your local grocery store and look for olive oil, unscented baby oil, or almond oil. I like cocoa butter for it's consitency, it feels like a lotion but is much more moisturizing.

Overshaving can cause irritation and dryness, too. As it is getting colder outside, try going a few days to a few weeks without shaving your armpits. Shave them only if you need to (if you will be wearing a dress, if they get really prickly and annoying, etc). The hairs will help protect the skin so it can heal.

As for the scabbing right now, apply some tripal antibiotic once a day for a few days to help prevent infection, and then just leave it alone and keep it moist.

Good luck!

My husband had this problem and he switched to Tom's of Maine. You can find it in most supermarkets or drug stores. It is very mild and non irritating.
