ronaldinho - but he had a lousy world cup. But then, so did most other highly rated players (Gerrard, Lampard, Rooney, Henry, Zidane).
I think Joe Cole was one of the better players in Germany and could become the best.

If by "currently" you mean this year, then the best player would have to be the best player in the World Cup, who was Fabio Cannavaro, the Italy captain. I believe he was voted best player in the World Cup.
