There has been so much contraversy with ultrasounds and gender deciding... That's why numerous health officials WON'T tell you anymore -- in fact, most have a strict policy about not telling. There have been WAY too many cases of people suing for the ultrasound techs telling them the wrong gender of the baby.
What you should have been told when you went in for the ultrasound that they can't physically be 100% sure.
When I was pregnant with my first child, and had a second ultrasound done at 25 weeks they told me that it would be a boy beyond a shadow of a doubt. Low and behold, I gave birth to a healthy girl.
I wouldn't count on it 100%... but it does give you a good clue. You can get a second ultrasound done, but then the only way to know beyond that shadow of a doubt is when you're holding your child in your arm.
Quite honestly... I'm surprised that they even told you.

If you want, buy a few things... not too much though! I would wait and get a second ultrasound before I started really buying too much or setting up anything. Even if it did come out a girl, you can always have a couple little blue outfits around that she can wear from time to time. Just don't go "boy crazy" and buy a whole closet full of clothing.

I wouldnt. Not at 75% sure. We had our ultra sound a few days before 20 weeks, and the nurse was able to actually get a picture of the "twigs and berries", she was completely sure it was a boy (there'd have to be something anatomoically wrong with the baby for it to be a girl and have those parts and pieces :).
Anyway, A lot of people I know were told one gender even at 100% and they still were wrong.
All that said its really up to you. 18 weeks is a really good time to get a good idea of what it is (much better than the routine 16 weeks) but i'd hate to decorate for a boy and have a girl. Or have a shower with gifts for a boy only to have a girl.

If your insurance covers another ultrasound, I'd say go for it. If not, there are places around (search the internet to find them) that perform 3D and 4D ultrasounds and do their best to tell you the sex of the baby. This is what we did to find out for sure so we could plan accordingly. I believe it cost us $75 for a 30 minute session. They also put the ultrasound onto a video tape that we provided so we could have a copy. Good luck!

As you know all babies are basically the same sex in the beginning and usually you don't get an ultrasound until you are about 20 weeks. with today's technology they are probably right.Did you have the new 3-D ultra sound that one is suppose to be the best one. Ask you Dr. if this is a possibility and talk to your insurance company to see if they would authorize it so you will not have to come out of pocket for the expense. I hope I was of some help.

I would wait. 75% wouldn't be enough for me to plan everything around. There's still a 25% chance it's girl, and you know what will happen, even though it's more than likely a boy, as soon as you go out and buy all the boy stuff it will be a girl. That's my luck anyway.
Congratulations!

Well alot of times they can be mistaken. I would be sure where ever I purchased something from you can return if it ends up being a girl. Or perhaps you could get a 3d ultrasound they are really awesome and you would also know for sure.

It's easier to detect if the fetus is a boy than if its a girl.
I'd wait for the next ultrasound to confirm, then start planning!

If they said its a boy then its most probably a boy but there are times when they still commit mistakes. Anyway, wait a little longer before you buy all the boy stuff just to be sure.
Good day!
