If you have a credit card then just use it in one of the payphones there. They should have instructions for how to dial using a credit card or even collect if you have to. Most of the phones there have English and Dutch. If you don't have a credit card then go to one of the little kiosks that sell cigerettes and things and buy a calling card. Usually with a calling card you follow the instructions by calling the number and then entering the pin and then dialing the number in the US buy dialing 001-area code-phone number.

You must dial a +1, not a 001, then the area code, then the telephone number. To dial a + you press on the 0 key for a few seconds. Watch your telephone display, it will change from a 0 to a +. You then dial a 1, then the area code, then the telephone number.
