He was actually killed by turks when on a raid into their territory. It is believed they actually peeled the skin of his face of and his body may have been recovered and buried in a monastary. I saw on the history channel that his body was found recently but unfortunately the casket he was in had sealed off all oxygen so when they opened it the body disinegrated.

No one know for sure where the remains are buried, if you are intrigued by him i suggest you read Elizabeth Kostova's "The Historian" which makes reference to what might have happened to his remains.

This is a fragment of his Biography:

There is much speculation as to what happened to Vlad the Impaler in his final battle. Some say he died at the hands of his own men, as he was mistaken for a Turk while disguised in one of their uniforms, while others say he was killed, and decapitated, his dead body only recognizable by the vestments and medallions he was wearing.

How Dracula died is anyone's guess...assumptions are many and witnesses unreliable. They have him fighting to the last until speared by a Turk; or taking a blow from an axe by one of his own men in confusion; or shot through the head while cheering his men's bravery. But, one fact is certain – it was recorded by the monastery monks – his body was found mutilated in a nearby bog: The only way the good priests could tell who he was came from the medallions and the princely vestments he wore. He was decapitated, seemingly in ritualistic style after death. His head was nowhere to be found.

nope. my theory is that vlad emigrated to new york, and got involved with the mafia - being the perfect hit man, he would be in high demand. i think his career ended when he tried to eat jimmy hoffa. i think probably he just couldnt choke old jimmy down, and died mid- meal. i figure jimmy died too from blood loss, and they are still in vlad's hideout, mouldering for all eternity. someday they will be unearthed, still lying in a tangle of writhing limbs, and be preserved and put on display at the guggenheim. a fitting end for both. ;)
