Nooooo! Don't drink it! Gargle with it but dont swallow it that will just make you throw up. Try sucking on ice, or freezies, drink lots of fluids that are low in acidity and if it hurts more than a couple days see a doctor. If you spike a fever, see a doc sooner.

Yes,drinking saline water really helps, actually it releaves by soothing the mucous membrane of the throat, salt does alot of wonderful things and it also inhibits the growth of some bacteria.
Any you did not specify how and when it hurts, when you are taking the salty water make sure its warm.
Try also taking vitamin c from a local drug store it helps too,but if the cause is bacteria you need to see a physician who can prescribe some antibiotics for you.
Good luck!

Not drinking it!! Gargle with it. Like you would a mouthwash. You want to gargle it real deep in the back of your throat but not swallow.

Also, after you do that you might try drinking a warm/hot drink. Like apple cider or tea with honey. Something sweet that coats your throat.

No sugar, don't drink salt water, that'll kill you. Just ask Robinson Crusoe. Gargling helps. It draws out the bad stuff from the sore part and helps it to heal faster. Don't swallow!
