Tekn33k gave a very good description of the difference between the two.
Vedic Astrology is also called Hindu Astrology. Both Vedic and Western Astrology have the same origin. Both branches came from the Astrology of the ancient Chaldeans.
VA has evolved its own system of Lunar Mansions based on the premise that the Moon is the strongest and most important planet, it being the closest to Earth. The Vedic Zodiac is also about 23 degrees backwards from the Western Zodiac. This is the sidereal zodiac, as opposed to the tropical zodiac of WA.
So, if you were born on March 22nd, your Sun would be at 1 degree Aries in the Western Chart, whereas in the Vedic Chart it would be at 8 degrees of Pisces. And the interpretation would be different.
There is also more emphasis on Houses in VA, which are not so strongly stressed in WA. And yes, VA is more specific in pinpointing things like, 'you will have 2 houses abroad', 'you will inherit money from a maternal uncle', etc.
WA is more detailed in the psychological and mental qualities that make up an individual's character. There are also components of WA that are not found in VA, e.g. the Part Of Fortune, the Fixed Stars, and others.
I like VA because of its practicality and its remedies. On the other hand, I like WA because it is more in-depth and gives a better, more balanced, overall picture.

There are tons of things.
Western astrology tends to put more importance on the ability of birthsigns and astrological alignment to determine the personality and psychology of a person, where as Vedic tends to be more of a scryers tool, giving the ability to pinpoint the moments when key events will unfurl.
Other things too, Western astrology is Tropical, with position 1 of the zodiac marked by where the sun crosses the earths equator.
Vedic is different in that it has 27 preset constilations which line up with the signs of the zodiac.
Because of this change in the way the zodiac is mapped, you could be and probably are a totally different sign in Vedic.

Ive had a Vedic chart done to me too, and you know what.. I can relate to it as much as i can relate to Western, infact a lot of the same planets and houses are involved in the same things.. I had questions in astrology that western really didnt give me an answer to, I always felt I had a strong Jupiter force in me, I like philosophy, higher learning, teaching, but i never really saw that in my chart. so when checked out Vedic they have what they call a Pancha Maha Yoga's or The '5 Great Yogas' like an aspect and position combination.. ruled by different planets Mars, mercury, Venus, Jupiter, Saturn. and Bam! there it was the answer to my question, I had the Jupiter one, its supposed to be a very significant part of me. If only there were more websites on vedic, and well if I actually understood the words, I would be more inclined to learn it too, so for now i guess ill just let someone interpret it for me. we should really all check it out, it could be our own loss. really its like discovering astrology all over again :)

Is Vedic another name for Real signs or the eastern version? If it is then I may know how to answer your question... If I am correct the difference is that (heres an example in the western version of the horoscopes Gemini would be from may21-jun21 but in the vedic or eastern version Gemini would be the dates that cancer is in the western)... its kinda hard to explain but I hope you find the answer.

Jyotish, referring to jyot, or "light" and "isha", or "lord", is the contemplation of the divinity expressing as time and space. Also known as Vedic astrology, it is the extant form of ancient astrology still practiced in India. Jyotish is the instructional element of the Rig Veda, and as such is a Vedanga, or "body part" of the Vedas. Jyotish is called the Eye of the Veda, for its ability to see into the future.
