I would love to ask this question, for 20 yrs it has driven me mad(no pun intended).
I am English by birth, and grew up with this car...
The car in question is a Jaguar...o.k.
Now the Americans say it like this(the name of the car)
Jag -wire !!!
INCORRECT!!! take it from the people who made the darn thing!
It is a JAG U ARE .....say it over and over,
JAG U ARE o.k.....and we all laugh, because
In nooo way, is it suppose to be said as a JAG- WIRE?

"Yank" here, from "the southern states". I dislike the British pronunciation, "JAG U ARE". It sounds pretentious. But there is nothing more grating on the nerves than to hear it pronounced "JAG- WIRE". I have heard that pronunciation several times.
Zoologists pronounce it "Jag-whar". American advertising for the brand does also.

Because that is the AMERICAN English translation. If you look around you will find all kinds of words that have had changes in them to suit our Country. We have been the melting pot of the world every since we booted the pompous British asses out of our land in the late 1700's. Since we have so many different peoples trying to mix and become one, pronunciation of words has changed along with it. We have even changed the spelling of some words to make more sense. Words like "color" instead of "colour."
You should have realized by now that in order to own one of these lemons you have to own two. You will need to have one around to drive while the other is in the shop.
By the way, we all laugh because of your funny sounding pronunciations, your stupid accent, and your arrogant mannerisms.

Because americans have our own dialect of the english language and pronounce somethings different...and now that jaguar is a ford(american) car company maybe we should get to say how to pronounce it!LOL

I thought it was Jaguar? Ha!!! I never heard anyone call it a Jagwire. Maybe you need to converse with more Americans. The ones you talking to will have you ordering "Bacon & Aggs" for Breakfast.

Perhaps because it's NOT an English word. It is a S. American word. And in case you haven't noticed--there are a lot of words we don't pronounce the same. Aluminium for one.

true, though I think you're generalizing. I'm American, yet I don't say it like that, I say it the regular way, they way it's supposed to be pronounced. Have you watched any Jaguar commercials here lately?

Well, its easier to say Ford, as they Own Jaguar... And to top that, we have a football team here that is named the Jaguars...So, I think I know how to pronounce names of animals and cars and teams and such. Thanks.
