Yesterday I had an interesting conversation at work with a customer who commented on my nametag. :) He said that the way people pronounce my name is often (though of course not always) connected to what part of the U.S. they're from. I didn't realize that.
I won't tell you -- yet -- how I myself pronounce "Shari". I want to see what you all say.
So, FIRST please tell me if you'd say it as "Sherry" (like the fortified wine) or "Shahree" (with the stress on the "Shah" syllable). And SECOND, please tell me what state you live in. If you're not American, that's cool too. In that case, just say what country and/or region you're from. Thanks all!

Ari. N also mentioned something interesting that I didn't think about. So I'll clear that up now, so it doesn't confuse future answerers....
When my folks named me Shari, they were not trying to connect it to any religious origin. They just liked how it looked, and that it was kind of "different" from the norm. :)

I'm about to pick the "Best Answer", but first, as promised, here's how I pronounce my name: like Sherry. In fact, this is one of the reasons I like my funny nickname, Scary Shari. It naturally follows that when someone says "scary", they're going to say Shari in a rhyming way. :) Hence, they get my name correct.
As for saying it like "Shahree" (rhyming with "sorry"), there of course is nothing wrong that that pronunciation. I just don't like it personally. For some reason, it sounds harsh to me. But I guess it all boils down to the fact that one way it's my name, and one way it isn't! :)
BTW, interestingly enough, not ONE customer at work has said my name wrong after looking at my nametag. I guess most Californians, at least, say it my way.
