My fiancee and I just shopped for her ring... we settled on The Shane Company... they're online if one is not in your area. I would recommend you visit their store if possible, and you'll see the staff is well-trained and the diamonds of excellent quality. You'll also see their diamond prices... which you'll also see comparable prices of diamonds found in the malls.

I would'nt advise purchasing a Ring that has previously been worn by someone else! (eg - Ebay) First of all, you may be sent something quite different to what you expected, even though you've seen a picture. It may have been stolen and being sold to you for your partner. And wether you believe or not, if it has indeed been worn by someone else you know nothing about, it could bring bad luck in being worn by someone else!! I would reccommend shopping at Argos for Engagement Rings, they are of great value, so beautiful and no reason for concern to be caused!

Umm.. not sure why I recieved a thumbs down for my answer?? I was giving some good advice on where to purchase this gentlemans Engagement Ring without having anything to worry about in the process! Everybody knows buying stuff off Ebay is'nt always a good idea as it could be faulty or stolen before you even recieve it! I gave two links for the store Argos as its great value for money and very tastefull.

New York and Antwerp, Belgium are the acknowledged capitals of diamonds. My suggestion would be to compare diamond cut and quality on ebay and other websites. Then, with printouts in hand, head to W47th St. in New York (just off 5th). Bargain hard and be knowledgable. Make sure and diamonds are GIA certified and shop around. I paid a approx 15% less then I would have at a discount jewler. That can be significant at the $10 - 20K range (pays for the flight at least).

If you don't want to worry about getting ripped off, then don't buy online. You shoudl NEVER buy a diamond without haveing seen it with your own eyes first. And don't necessarily trust a grading report. 2 stones, with identical color, clarity and carat weight can look drastically different, depending on how well it was cut. It's all about the proportions of the stone.
Please, take the time to go in person to a reputable independent jeweler. You will be frankly amazed when you see the difference between a well-cut stone, and the rest of the crap out there with grading reports.

I have bought heaps of jewellery off ebay and never had a drama. In fact I've actually found the quality to be better in some cases. I got a ring that retails for $2500 for only $500. Good luck and congratulations!
Thanks charlie b, but they havn't been worn before. These are genuine jewellers who sell goods online. Feel free to check it out before you comment : )

This may NOT be a longshot. Ask your fiance if she has any engagement rings (from her previous fiances) that she will sell to you. If so, tell her you will buy (one) from her and pay for it after the marriage. If she has more than one, HEAD FOR THE HILLS because she is a ring collector. (Cynical but wiser).
