Well, my Bachelor's Degree is Science and the Master's is Arts. Yet both are for education. So I'd say teaching is an art AND a science.

It's both.

It' a science because of the concrete information that is communicated.

It's an art because of the way that the information is communicated. Some people have the ability to share information so that people get excited about it - they inspire students to want to learn.

Anyone can teach (science) - not everyone can teach well (art). We need more artists.

I would agree with the fact that teaching is an art rather than science as science is something a verfiable knowledge .On the other hand teaching is something that involves effort by someone to make other understand certain aspects of knowledge that may include science.

Hmm, I think I have heard a similar question: What came first, the chicken or the egg? :) It is both an art and a science. In my opinion a balance of both provides an optimal learning environment.

The university that I just graduated from in May is still trying to decide which it should be and although I originally graduated with a bs, I now am supposed to list it as a ba.

I believe teaching is an art rather than a science because science requires a logical formula that applies to all situations. Students may or may not respond to the same stimulus, and it takes a teacher's intelligence and experience to recognize what motivates a student to do better.

its an art because you have to attract your students towards your subject. You have to make them study and understand. And its not that easy to make them do all these unless you know the art of teaching. And its a science because you must answer what your students ask.

It is an ART! An art of planning, dedication, delivery, enthusiasm, high expectations, practice, time management, discipline management, encouragement, patience, beliefs, and an art of love. There is no science to teach, just to love every child and do your best preparing them to become successful and responsible citizens.
