You can get cold sores anywhere. I had a patient with herpes simplex type 1 on her knees. She had fallen as a child and her mother kissed her knees better. She had a cold sore and the virus got in through the abrasions on the knees.

You get cold sores on your mouth. If you have something on your face that looks like a cold sore it could be impetigo, which is very contagious. Go get it checked out.

You can get outbreaks all over your face, though the lips are the most common area. Other places can include the nose, and if you get it in or around the eye it can be quite dangerous.
