I am having a nightmare trying to get a broadband connection with talktalk. The poroblem being that I cannot get a sync light on a modem, hence no connection to the internet, although I've tried several different modems. They all set up OK even the wireless router which I've currently installed.I've checked and replaced the in line filter and cable.Talktalk insist the line is live and that they can see the signal transmitting to my address, (I only have one telephone point). They Insist it must be my router which is at fault. After my second call to the Belkin helpline they suggest that I requst a WOOSH test from Talktalk. Has anyone had a simillar experience, will this test prove that the signal is not reaching me. If not any suggestions PLEASE.

Unless you don't mind getting through so much trouble to get their service working for you, I would personnally change ISP.

The problem you're experiencing is very common when using an older or cheaper phone line and when you deal with different companies for the dsl service and the phone line then it tends to take forever to get them resolved even if both companies are well intended.

As you'll notice saving a couple of bucks a month can cost a lot of complications for nothing.

I personnally work for a major ISP which is also a major phone provider and sync issues usually get resolved withing 3 days. On the other hand, it's happened quite a few times that cheaper providers reselling the same service redirect customers to our call center by simply telling them "it's a problem with your phone line, call them". Of course since those customers are not paying us for the dsl service, our company cannot spend 500$ to send a dsl technician to check their phone line.

In summary, if your phone line works well for voice conversations, you should not have to contact your telephone service provider because they give you what you pay for.

The dsl provider on the other hand is responsible for ensuring you get the service they say you qualify for. If they can't they should admit it and refund you.

Of course you could also contact consumer protection groups in the event that your isp keeps fooling around with you.
