Letigiously speaking, it depends. If the gun was defective when used properly ... yes. If the gun manufacturer sent a representative to the place where your grandfather was and that representative shot your grandfather's fingers off ... yes.

If the accident was the result of your grandfather misusing the weapon or not having sufficient experience and training to safely operate the firearm, then it is your grandfather's fault for not operating the weapon in a safe manner. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but your grandfather probably doesn't have a legal leg to stand on (no pun intended).

I think your grandfather needs to polish up on his "shooting" skills.
How did he shoot all of them off if it was an accident?

I really don't think he would get anywhere in a lawsuit. It would cost him more in legal fees than it's worth. The manufacturer would just see it as misusing the firearms and I doubt they would admit any fault on their part. Live and learn and next time make sure the gun is on safety and point down and AWAY from all body parts!!!!!

My guess, and its just a guess, is he would have to show he was legally allowed to use the gun in the situation he was in, the gun was defective when it was made, that it had been serviced only by authorized agents, and that he had followed all the manufacturers instructions.
