How does this happen?

Something has really weird happened to my family computer the past few weeks. We've had around 30 GB on our hard drive and then one day it tripled. Like, it was 30 GB, but then it was saying it had 111 GB (out of 120, somewhere close to there). Even if we did download or install a new program, it wouldn't be that much. Do any of you have any explanations to explain this?

Did someone in the house "compress" files on the drive? That could account for this phenom.

Are you sure it was 30gb tell me does no. of drives also incress if yes someone just make a new drive of left space or nt possible
