Probably $14-$17 per hour. Just a guess tho. Other areas of the country may be offering a lot more per hour, but remember that this is somewhat controlled by the cost of living in that area. There's not much point in going after the big bucks and then ending up living in a dump. Be sure to check out the ads in the Advance magazine but also check your local area for sign on bonuses. Hospitals in my area are currently offering $4,000 sign on bonuses for 2 year commitment - this can help with moving expenses and those college loans. Do not forget to ask about shift differentials, weekend shift differentials and Holiday pay.
Prepare your resume and visit all the area hospitals that you would like to work at. I am surprised that they have not gone after you already. My boss is visiting all the tech schools in my state to recruit new employees. There is a huge tech shortage across the country where the average lab employee is 48.
I love being a med tech and hope that you will too! And don't let those blood bankers scare you! (How many units will you need to screen for an O Pos patient with an Anti-K?)
