The whole idea of immigration, or so I was lead to believe, was to help people escape from their problems and hardships and start a new life. Instead we encourage them to bring their problems and bigotry with them.Does anyone else see this as a problem? You should be coming here to lose the differences so we can live as one in peace.
And the governments wonder why their are gang problems.? Because we encourage the ethnic groups to stick together and keep their misguided ways..real smart...

Multiculturalism is not just a bad idea it is incoherent. A nation is a people united by a common culture so if there are many cultures in a country that country is not a nation. Now a nation with many cultural inputs that's a different thing.

But there is a subtle balance to be achieved between integration and cultural and religious freedom. Here in the UK that balance has strayed to far towards freedom and this has had a bad result on people of all cultural origin within the UK. The problem is that the freedom of one group restricts the freedom of another. Where the practice of one set of cultural values conflicts with another precedence should be given to the native culture of the land

Not when the new immigrants refuse to assimilate into the culture of the host country. When you look at history, the best example of a culture being destroyed by the "great and good" multiculturalism is the Roman Empire. Once they started bringing in all the different tribes into their empire it wasn't long before it fell. Why do people try to say that we're all same underneath our skin but "diversity" is so great?

You seem to have a rather odd definition of multiculturalism. I don't see the idea of "losing differences" as necessary to harmony. I see respecting difference and building bridges as harmony. For example, I live in California. We have a large Spanish-speaking population, and large bilingual Spanish/English. I don't see the problem. Those who do not understand English well enough to get on in it for court or other official circumstances have interpreters available, but by and large the second and third generations speak English well enough, and usually speak Spanish as well. They are citizens by virtue of having been born here, and they vote. They remember how their parents and grandparents who are not citizens are treated by various groups when they vote. Thus, it is just good sense to be polite and reasonable in dealings with them. No privileges, but no problems, either. The "reasonable accommodation" of having interpreters available is not a privilege, just a sensible solution to the language difficulties.

As to gangs and such, it's not the ethnicity that is the issue, it is the gang mentality. The hostile us-versus-them mentality. They may in fact be divided along ethnic lines, but no one is condoning gangs on that basis.

Why don't you ask the Emperor Mocteczuma how he fared with the Spanish? Was multiculturalism good for him and his people?

It isn't just minorities that start gangs, it is the people who were already here who also start them.
