My 11 month old has recently really been making a mess. After she poops, it ends up traveling up her back, then she is sooo wiggley when we change her, well let's just say it really looks like the sh** hit the fan!!! It doesn't seem to matter how soon we get to the diaper change, it's just a mess. It isn't diarrhea, just a lot of poop. We use Pampers baby dry diapers.

Any suggestion on how to make this less of a problem? Duct tape is not an option!!

Thanks

not to worry, I wouldn't try to potty train a baby who doesn't walk yet, that's absurd!!

We use Baby Dry, too. And my son is 12 months and I know what you mean about wiggly and poop hitting the fan! I sometimes give him his brush or something to hold to keep his hands busy while I change him and it helps to keep him a little more still. But for those times he wiggles so much that it's everywhere, he just gets another bath. It's good to know that other mommies are going through this!

OK, first, I would suggest trying cloth.

Seriously, when my son was in disposables (whether Pampers, Huggies, Luvs, or store-brand), we had "blow-out poops" all the time. You know -- where it shoots out every available opening.

When we used cloth, we NEVER had this problem. Even when -- at about 11 mos. -- my son & I both had such severe diarhea for a week that I was nearly hospitalized. Zero leaks.

Take one of your Pampers (a new one) and splash some water on it. The water rolls for a second or two, then starts sinking in. Now do the same thing with a cotton T-shirt. The water sinks in instantly. Cloth diapers "grab" poop the same way.

Seriously, with today's "All in one" diapers and pin-free diaper covers, it's not as hard to put one on as you think.

If you're not willing to try the cloth route, (and I admit it can be intimidating), try switching brands. Different brands fit different babies better. For example, Pampers never, ever fit my son right, but Luv's did. It was just a proportion thing.

And check the size. Has she out-grown the current size?

The new Pamper's Cruisers (out this year) have a special mesh "Absorb-Away" liner. Think of the fabric ont he inside of a man's swimming trunks, with a bunch of little holes in it. This is the top layer that lines the diaper. Now, this creates a lot more resistance and drag against, well, the poo, than a flat smooth diaper lining does. The poo gets trapped by all these holes, and doesn't travel as far up the the back of the diaper as it would with a smooth liner. The lining is still super soft and comfy, just much better at dealing with the "wetness and mess" instead of just "wetness".

Try using Huggies. My son had the same problem with Pampers, because there is no back to these diapers. Anyways, I was using the swaddlers and what a mess. If you are a dye hard Pampers fan, Luvs is also made by the same company. Pampers Cruisers are suppost to be better I guess then the baby dry. You may also try getting a larger size diaper.

Unfortunately when sh*t hits the fan its a parents job to clean it up. Aren't there some diapers out there with a more elastic waist? I think I have seen them advertised. Pampers cruisers. I had this problem and the only solution to get her clean was a half bath in the sink after the wet wipe clean up. When it was a loose stool it went up to almost her hair line. This is what people are refering to when they say " The joys of parenthood". Your lucky my daughter had problems with constipation. 11 months seems a little early to potty train, but you could try and see, some kids take to it earlier than others.

I have never ever had that problem, but I use cloth diapers on my children. With cloth diapers, the ones I use, the baby has not only a cloth diaper on but a pair of rubber pants over as well. I call it the double measure system, because if anything leaks past the diapers, the rubber pants will pick it up.

Two piece cloth diapering as their often refered to are still the best diapers a mother can use. Before disposable diapers you never ever heard about baby's messing out of their cloth diapers and rubber pants. With disposables you do all the time. Not hard to tell which diapers are better.

My son had this problem all of the time. His problem was that he was going to the bathroom so much at night, that he would pee and doodle right through the diaper. We ended up switching out of Pampers and started using the cheapy brand that you can buy at Fred Meyer and buying in a larger size. The diaper was higher on his back and the cheap brands seemed to hold pee better.

Also, for the wiggly baby, try giving her a toy to keep her occupied. A bottle works well, also.

Sh*t happens, my friend. Try going up a size in her diapers so there is more room for the poop to go. Or if its a real messy one sometimes I just stand my son up in the tub and hose him down. It's easier, none gets on my hands or anywhere else and it saves using half a box of baby wipes.

What has she been eating? You may want to start tracking what she is eating. And you may also want to bring this to her pediatrician if it is an on-going problem. My neice goes through periods where it goes everywhere and her pediatrician said it was what they call " Toddler Diarrhea". And my neice sometimes does this for a week or more at a time.

We had this problem w/ our son. We went to the next diaper size. This did help. I use Huggies and love them, no leaks or anything.

Good Luck
