I may be taking a backpacking trip overseas and am wondering what would be the best type of laptop to take with me. I'd like to keep it around $1000 and no larger than a 14.1 screen:

Models I'm considering:

Lenovo ThinkPad z61t (expensive)
Lenovo V100 (12 in screen may be too small. durable?)
TwinLab Durabook (doesn't seem to have very good specs)
Toshiba Satellite U200 series (durability features but keboard seems mushy)
HP Pavillion DVD212US (excellent specs but concerned about durability)

Any other models you recommend?

the lenovo v100 seemed ok to me at $ 999

no point worrying about durability of notebooks., lenovo, toshiba or hp ... they're global brands ... basically the notebooks have to be good enuf for travel conditions & abuse ... vibrations & all !

dell i find missing from u'r list
they offer max. value for money, besides are 'road-ready', most models
firstly, the lenovo v100 at 999 is not bad, tho mo-board is 915 based

i know that you did not say anything about this company but what about a dell you can take and buy a notebook system with complete care so that if it does get damaged you can take and have the component replaced. and sometimes if a system is beyond repair they will grant a system exchange may get an even better system. and also you can take and transfer the warranty from the united states to another country in a matter of days like 2 days and the warranty is there with the system and when you come home same deal in reverse.
