At what point would anyone think that Eminem has touched on serious issues? The fact is that many rap artists have and do speak out on political and social issues. As one response already pointed out Public Enemy has to head that list, but there are many others and many who are more contemporary. Such as: Mos Def, Talib Kweli and Binary Star. I think the bigger problem isn't so much whether or not hip-hop artists choose to talk about serious issues, but rather whether or not people are ready to hear about them and deal with them - because it seems like that doesn't sell in this country.
