It has nothing to do with hemispheres. It has more to do with the elevations across a continent. There are rivers in Northern Canada that run north. There are rivers in South America that run North. It depends on which side of a continental divide a river is.

Rivers flow down-hill, not north or south. The Shenandoah and the Nile rivers are located in the northern hemisphere, yet both flow toward the north.
