My mom and I argue constantly about this! Her side of the story is that she thinks it is wrong to talk to guys on the internet! She says they are nothing but perverts and using me as bait 2 try 2 lure me in and harm me! I can understand she has my best interests in mind but i really like talking to guys! I have already met 5 guys who r very sweet, considerate, compassionate, caring, they make me laugh, etc. 2 of them live in Egypt, 1 lives in Colorado, 1 lives in ArKansas but i don't know where the other one lives. I love talking to them. Y can't my mom understand that not all guys r pervs? Y does there have 2 be a constant fight about it? I'm 18 yrs. old, can 't I choose who i want to talk to?

Well think on who paid for the computer. You should be thankful for having a Mom that is concerned. She isn't overly protective either, there is all she said out there. Guys are using this internet, this site, places like "my space" to hunt down innocents to abuse. Tell you what how 'bout a compromise. You send messages and receive messages but only after she looks at them That way you can see what she hates and she can see that your mature enough to be trusted.

As long as you live home, then moms rules prevail. The biggest thing here is your mom is partially right. Not all men out here are perverts or such, but there are a great deal of them and there is no real way to tell the difference on the computer. All guys will first appear as sweet talking, compassionate, honest, over caring, etc. until they lure you into meeting them. Read the papers, computer articles especially about the Polk County Sheriffs office underage sting that lure our govt officials out of Washington DC. It really happens all too often so your mom has every right to be concerned about this. Im not saying not to talk to every guy on here but please be careful and dont tell them where you live or exchange phone numbers. If it sounds too good to be true, then it probably isnt. Learn to trust your instincts too

I think its a mom thing. Mines the same way. The problem is that people only hear about the bad things that happen on the internet. Id say as long as you dont give out private information there shouldnt BE a problem.

She is just being a protective mom. She wants you to be careful and there's nothing wrong with that. Be careful who you meet with if you do. Stay in groups and in public places. Everyone online is not a pervert.(98% of them are) Don't be hard on your mom. She just cares alot for you.

i think it would be okay to talk to guys if u knew them personaly then ur mom might be happier. shes also showing that she cares about u because ther are perverts and twisted people out there that want u in a bad way so only talk to people u know

yes,you are old enough to speak to whom you want.but sometimes how you present yourself on internet can say things to make these guys think you are going to be easy.Your mother has every right to be concern.Have you not seen on news what has happened to thousands of kids.I'm not gonna judge,but what is important is your life.How do you know these guys are really in EGYPT they could be next door just waiting for youto make right move.
