I think so too. I don't know where they'll strike next and it's very unnerving. I just wish it would stop.

I don't think they have to do much of anything. They have any terror event that happens blamed on al Qaeda. The important thing to note is the main goal of al Qaeda is the destruction of the US and doing this by economic means is part of their goal. So far al Qaeda is quite successful because the response the US has taken has played right into al Qaeda's goal. The biggest danger is the response that is being practiced. The US response is very poorly thought out. Billions have been spent on Homeland Security and have not improved anything and the iraqi War is a bonus for al Qaeda. It is not so much what terrorists can do but it is more the response to the attacks. Terror is always going to be there.

Al Qaeda is not gone, and they are not inactive. They are the predominant element of leadership in the Iraqi insurgency. There are also still active in Afghanistan, working to re-establish the Taliban to political power there. Most of Al Qaeda is spread around the world (yes here in the USA too) as inactive "cells." The cells are part of a coordinated plan, in that they wait to be activated by codes embedded in messages from Usama Bin Laden or other Al Qaeda leadership. Why do you think it is such a big deal when Al Jazeera broadcasts messages from those individuals? It is very precise. Zawahiri may tape a message where he is wearing a particular item of clothing, or a knife in his belt, or something like that ... and that is the activation message for a cell somewhere else in the world. Their organization has seen much of its money dry up, but that does not stop them entirely. These are people that want to kill non-combatant civilians to achieve political/religious ends, not having money won't stop them entirely. It does limit the range of operations they are capable of executing, but does not eliminate them from the world scene.

People who criticize Bush unabashedly for the war in Iraq, or the domestic spying issue, or border security, or immigration need to understand the complexity of the issues we're dealing with. We are where we are because of decades of inactivity. These terrorist groups have been active in the current sense for more than 30 years, and our lack of proper response in the 1990s emboldened them and tacitly reinforced their notion that America is weak and defeatable. During the 1980s we bombed Libya, and the terrorism abated for a while, but a consistent, coordinated plan has never been devised and executed to address this problem. Bush has not done everything right, but at least he is willing to do something. You can't broadcast threats of "bringing terrorists to justice" if you aren't willing to commit action to bring that about. I think we're all tired of seeing our servicemen and women coming home in body bags ... but the fact is, Al Qaeda has not gone away and pulling out of Iraq now would send the same message that we sent by not reacting to the African embassy bombings, the USS Cole, and the first World Trade Center bombing. If we can't defeat these hostile elements overseas, we will be fighting them here at home.

Al Qaeda is not gone ... and they are always planning. It is only a matter of time before the next attempted attack. Look at the attempted airline hijacking in the UK last month. These elements are still operating, we're not done with the war on terror yet.

theyre very quiet because the tapes they have released lately have been proven to be hoaxes ... and alot of people are waking up to the fact that it is a big crock of bs that terrorists are just running all over the globe in droves ... alittle research will turn up just how common secret -service sponsored "terror" operations carried out by govts against their own citizens to create fear to support govt agendas really is .... the bottom line is that terrorists are about the same thing as the childhood boogyman and if a person is informed and educated its a pretty big stretch of the imagination to buy into what the sqawk box is pounding into your head on a daily basis.

Al Quada is a much changed organization from a few years ago. Thier money is mostly dryed up and they are on the run.
That does not mean we are safe from them but the next attack may come from another group with the same aims.

It scares me too. And I wish our government would spend our time and money in the U.S. and not in Iraq. To me Iraq is nothing more than another Vietman disaster (remember when the Communist were going to take over the world if we didn't first stop them in Vietmam?). All our money and energy should be spent protecting our borders, airlines, railways, and major cities. Not to mention that money should be poured into our schools (education has always been the key to a health economy and country).

They don't work like that. All the Al Quaeda attacks that have taken place have actually been by different groups. I don't think there is any co-ordinated plan.

Pity on 7/7 they didn't bomb Gleneagles instead of London.

I think they've figured out if they do anything right now they will help elect politicians who will attack them. So I believe they will lay low till after the elections.
