The oil companies are running a campaign of fear of rising gas prices with their opposition of the proposition 87 that's on the Nov. ballot. For example they are saying that nothing is required of the people in charge of the funds from prop. 87 to do anything. However, there is scientific proof that we need to put a stop to being so dependent on foreign oil. In Manhattan for example, they have developed wind mills that is responsible for at least 25% of the energy used which greatly contributes to less polution being released into the atmosphere. Why can't we as Californians do many of the same things such as developing solar and wind technologies that will help the atmosphere and cause us to have less dependency on oil. We need to start somewhere and Proposition 87 is a place to start rather than be complacent and do nothing simply because the oil companies say that it will cause high gas prices. That position is false should be dismissed. Yes on prop. 87 = energy freedom now

The oil companies are out to make a profit. They could care less about the consequences of their actions.

Also, oil reserves are expendable and we should be investing in renewable energy resources, preferably ones that don't produce pollution or contribute to global warming. Anyway, that's what we SHOULD be doing...

No, I don't think it is because of oil companies primarily that people are not taking global warming seriously, although perhaps some of the publicity is fueled (sorry) by oil companies. The main argument seems to be that the earth undergoes regular fluctuations in its average temperatures, we have had ice ages and warming trends before, and this is just coming off the last ice age, nothing to worry about. I think the truth is probably somewhere in the middle. We need to be aware of the ways we affect the atmosphere and make a good faith effort to clean up our act, but I also think Mother Nature is in fact very good at self-healing when she is given the chance. We need to get into a reasonable balance with the forces of nature, neither too submissive or too aggressive.

Except that you can't build windmills because the Beautiful Liberals say they spoil the view and kill migrating birds. And if you do find a place where that doesn't happen, then other Beautiful Liberals suddenly discover a gnat or worm or weed that is threatened and might go extinct and hey! no windmill. Solar panels work except that you need fossil fuels to make 'em and you needs lots and lots of panels. Every time it seems you find a solution to the energy problem, Beautiful Liberals, who are way smarter than we are, or I should say, I am, find a way to stop it. California has the most Beautiful Liberals per square kilometer anywhere on the planet. They still fly in their private jets and ride around in black SUVs, but won't be satisifed until the rest of us are getting back and forth in pedal cars and watching television by candlelight. (That last part was a funny...)

Yes its a reality but the fact that people aren't taking it as seriously I think, is less to do with the oil companies and what they are saying and more to do with the fact that as consumerism is actually increasing in the West - we are more reluctant than ever to have to make even tiny changes to the vast amounts of energy we are guzzling in the developing nations...

It is a reality. Of course the oill companies say it's not. It's their business to survive. They have not put enough funds into seeking renewable energy.

It's simply a good idea to clean the air regardless.
