They have a system by which they pay into a fund, called a luxury tax, if the payroll goes over a certain amount but the Yankees accept this and go after the players they want.

There is a cap, but they also have a luxary tax for teams that exceed the cap. Both Boston and the Yankees (Yankees at 200 million) exceed the cap and pay this luxary tax. For Steinbrenner, however, no amount is too much.
They need to do away with such a thing and have a finite, set amount, somewhere in the range of 125 million.

No, they don't have a salary cap. I'm no economics expert, but I'm pretty sure you can mostly blame this one on Players' Union President Donald Fehr. If there is to be a salary cap, both MLB and the players association have to agree on it, and as long as Fehr makes sure that all the players don't want a cap, there won't be a cap. Make no mistake, this guy is on of the most powerful people in sports.

They don't have a salary cap, but even money cannot buy a Championship team.

nope there is no salary cap in baseball.
their manager steinbrener has alot of money.
well i think they need 2 stop going after sluggers and go for defensive all around type of players, and get a deep bullpen, and pitching that wont get injured.
