For crying out loud they had a .600 record in the regular season. The playoffs is just a crapshoot.

It's absolutely rediculous. Joe Torre is a calm, cool individual who helps keep all the egos on his team in check. He can't, however, get them excited or make them have heart.

What the Yankees need is a player who plays with alot of passion and gets fired up about the game. Derek Jeter is one of the best players and a "true" Yankee, but he just doesn't wear his emotions on his sleeve. They need someone to get the team riled up like Paul O'Neil used to do. During that entire series, the Yankees literally looked complacent losing.

Also, let's not forget, the Yankees spent millions on Giambi and Sheffield, too, and they only had 1 hit apiece the entire series.

Jeter and Posada carried that team, and I just don't think any of the other players had the "playoff" mentality. They don't understand what it truly means to be a Yankee.

However, it's hard to find "that player" when you pay these guys so much, and that obviously isn't going to change any time soon. So they need to bring in a fiery manager to get in his player's face when need be. Piniella is notorious for his short fuse, and maybe, JUST maybe, he would be just what those overpaid, spoiled players need.

I think this sucks for Jeter and Posada, though.

If you have a $200M payroll, you'd better have a .600 record. You could pick the worse manager in the majors and put him in charge of the Yankees and he should be able to achieve a winning record and first place finish. It's when the season hits a critical point (i.e., the playoffs) that a good manager should be able to bring that team some victories, and that is something that Torre has failed to do for several years.

I agree that losing a short series is certainly a crapshoot. In facing Rogers and Bonderman they ran into guys on consecutive days literally pitching the game of their lives (in Rogers case it would be second to his perfect game, I'll stand by my point nonetheless). Casey Stengel and Yogi got fired after losing 7 game World Series. Every manager is fired on the same day they're hired, the date just hasn't been filled in yet. Torre had a great run. Lou Pinella is out there. Its time for a change. The Yanks will be back with or without Torre but its got to be time for them not to make the post season too ala the Braves. No one can do it every year, forever.

initially, i'm a red Sox fan. I truly have considered some video games the position judgements he's made i assumed had a unfavourable result on the game, and that got here about about 4 cases. the guy's managed what a million, one hundred-some thing wins and four WS and 13 submit Seasons with the Yankees. They (Steinbrenner & Sons or Cashman) are easily retarded to enable him bypass. Who the heck do they imagine they're going to replace him with? Mattingly? Mattingly develop right into a 1B, All-well-loved individual. good Managers (of the regularly happening a Yankee manager might want to favor to be) are both Catchers or Pitchers, no longer First Basemen. I recommend his first twelve months there he managed a note sequence win... yet another challenge after we had that knuclkehead Dan Duquette he spent a lot time blaming human beings ... after a lengthy time period there develop into no one left to blame. a similar challenge will ensue to Cashman (who sounds like a familiar ny city sleaze bag in any case). again, as a red Sox fan, that's large information. i wish Torre is going to Texas, he can paintings some magic with them. he's a stylish guy and he will have a good destiny. Yank followers get waiting for us to take many extra branch Pennants now that you've in simple terms enable the most experienced and argueably the perfect manager in baseball walk out the door.

Georgie Porgie is actually going to fire Torre? What a little pansy, wait, he's not that little. maybe george should take a look in the mirror. when is he going to realize that you can not buy a championship? over the past 6 years, the yankees have lost 3 times in the ALDS, twice in the ALCS (once being up 3-0, then losing to my Red Sox :) ), and once in the World Series. george may have all the money in the world, but i hope he enjoys crying into that pile of money, because it will be years until the yankees win another world series.
Torre is a great manager, but he is starting to lose his swagger. he could tell that his boys were starting to cash it in. what do you tell a team that could sense elimination that was suppose to win it all this year, again?
from a Red Sox fan, could we say it is the "Curse of A-Rod"? i would say so.

The Yankees have only one goal, and that is to win the world series every year. Anything short of that is considered a disappointment, even if they had a good season. Keep in mind that they havent won a world series since 2000. I dont think they should fire Joe Torre, but if that is what they believe that will solve the problem, then so be it.

Torre has had his chance to get the Yankees to the World Series, it's time for someone else to come in and try their luck. I don't know Lou Pinella is the answer though.
I also blame A-Rod for his negative attitude and his poor playing. He was paid big money to take the yankees to the World Series and failed.
Torre should be fired along with A-Rod, Shefield, Matsuey and most of the pitchers. I would keep Jeter, Giambi and Damon though.
It just proves that even with George Steiners money he couldn't buy their way into the World series. Just my opinion.

Yes it is a shame if Torre were to be fired. The root of the problem is having a $200 million payroll of players who are not hungry. A good manager can not make a player hungry. Torre has done an incredible job and should be rewarded for 11 straight years of playoff baseball, not punished because of Steinbrenner's need to outspend everyone.

Why not, it won't be the first time. Yogi Berra went to the World
Series as Yankee manager in 1964 but because he lost to the St. Louis Cardinals in the Series he got fired. The ironic thing about that was Johnny Keane quit the Cardinals and became the Yankee manager.

Poor Jeter carried the team through the playoffs.

Torre has given a lot to the Yankees and has made them a very strong team. To dismiss him because some players can't seem to show they are worth the millions (*cough* A-Rod) they are being paid sucks.

I forgot to mention, I am also a Mets fan not a Yankee fan.
