If the moon were to break up, which seems highly unlikely, the resulting shift in orbital mass would have a profound effect on at least the earth, and probably on Venus and Mars as well, and very possibly noticeable effects on the rest of the solar system. The moon is, after all, large enough to be a planet. It's a huge mass to be moving into a diffuse bunch of chunks, after having been a stable mass for so long.

If the moon were to break up, we'd have cataclysms on this planet like you wouldn't believe. The moon controls the tides, so the first thing we'd have would be flooding on a massive scale. There would also be catastrophic earthquakes and more than likely volcanic activity as well. In short, it would signal the end of life as we know it on this planet.

No.. it wouldnt effect any of the plantets' orbits. Earth controls the moon's orbit... though, like someone else said, it would effect the tides of the oceans and other things that occur on Earth.

It would change alot of things one being the Earths wobble but I would be more concerned with what affects it would have on our planet geologically! There would be no more tides as we see them today, the ocean currents would be thrown way out of whack, this would cause very different weather patterns and God only knows what else!

Not much, but it wouldn't really matter to us since the debris that hit Earth from the broken up moon would be billions of times more than needed to wipe out all life.

the tides stopping would be diasterous, & yes the Earth's orbit WOULD be affected, the Moon has just enough gravitational force to affect earth.

I would not wait for the Moon to break up. Chances of that happening are so small that you could wait for millions of years and not see the occurance. When it does happen you will not want to see the outcome.

It would definitely cause us to get hit by a lot of meteors. It may change the orbit since we would be dragging a lot of crap around with us.

Yes. That is a lot of mass that we are dragging around the sun with us. Also, if it "breaks up", there will probably be plenty of meteors pummeling the Earth and knocking it around.
