Research, research, research! That's basically what it boils down to. T-Mobile is pretty cheap for what you get. Then again, it depends where you live. Just go to different sites (tmobile, verizon, cingular, etc) and look at their plans and compare what you'd want. Also, try amazon.com for it as well. Sometimes you can get great deals by being in a promotional plan like I am. I pay $15 less than what most people pay now with T-Mobile since I'm in the promotional plan.

I have pasted two links below that provide some comparisons of cell phone plans.
I recommend that first you determine how much time and what range of area you will need. One trend noted is many folks have eliminated their land lines and strictly use a cell phone. A little study may provide you great benefits over the life of a phone contract.

T-mobile is the cheapest but friends tell me it sucks.
Sprint has a good plan but it cost more than Tmobile (but still a good price)
Verizion is the best company but is still really expensive
But if you like talking a lot all day everyday you'll probably love Metro PCS.
Never tried Alltel or Cingular
I have Sprint soooo i think its a good deal.

Try nextel....I would call them and tell them exactly what it is that you want and ask them what they can offer you.
