How about a spooky scavenger hunt? A pumpkin drawing contest, where they put faces on their own pumpkins ( which they could then take home as a party favor), Serve blood oranges and green drool juice, along with the ghoul treats. And let them play Witch's Wart, where they place the witch's wart on her nose, while they are blindfolded. Never forget a good spooky Pinata, kids of all ages love them.

Ducking for apples is the classic, though there are loads of older games, like simple riddles or charades (the proper one, not acting stuff out) or a concentration type game with halloween inspired items. A tradition my gran kept up (and we've stopped..) was peeling an apple in a single curl and throwing that over your left shoulder: the letter the shape most resemples indicates your future love. Transforming a room, or the hall, into a spooky place, and plenty of suitably (sometimes stupidly!) dressed up adults looming in the dark is still something I remember from childhood halloween parties.
2 year olds and 8 year olds would have very different expectations from a fun party though...so you might want to tailor games to suit both sides of the spectrum. Little presents wouldn't hurt either.
So long as there are plenty of toffee apples, the party can't help be a success!

The American websites are always really good for ideas for Halloween. My daughters didn't have Halloween parties until a few years ago and they're older than yours, but I found a great website with some ideas.
Keep it simple and not too scary.
Happy Halloween!

Hold a small Halloween Party, or like tell her to make Halloween cupcakes and cookies with him and inviting his friends over before they go trick or treating. Make up some quick Halloween activities that will occupy his time while the others are trick-or-treating. Make sure they involve candy and fun ( most important of all ), and are Halloween-themed.

"Worms / Guts!"
Make 3 large batches of spaghetti using liberal amounts of food colour dye in the water (green, red, blue - don't worry you're not going to eat it!). Put it all cold into a bucket. It looks like a foul mess of guts to be honest!
You can either play a game for prizes - where prizes are wrapped in something watertight and hidden in the spaghetti and the kids have to fish for them,
Or you can put in things to feel with their bare hands and they have find the halloween items ... spook them out ( - only a little!)
Put in what you fancy - the more imaginative the better
Grapes = eyeballs,
stick = witches finger
etc
Lots of fun... and not, surprisingly, too messy!
