He is over 3 years old and he was dropped out of his bowl yesterday, by that darn cat, and now he has a white slimey thing on his back, my sister says it's a fungus. Is there hope?

Well it's not ich/ick. This is generally bacteria not fungal. I'd recommend a broad spectrum antibotic. Note that given the age, and traum the white body slime may be a secondary infection.

Meds (best 1st)
trisulfa
fungus* eliminator (not Clear or the other stuff)
marcyn plus
melafix and primafix
marcyn I&II

*Also targets bacterial, and protozal infections

PS- Realize that betta only live to be 3-5 years old. So 3.5-4 years is a pretty good run.

is the white slime on his back fuzzy or slimy ? also how big is it ? I can say that it is not ich. Ich on a fish looks like sprinkled salt. I believe you have a fungis growing over a injury..the pet stores sell treatments for that. Those treatments dont really work. and bettas are in a small amount of water so your more likely to overdose him..keep his bowl clean dont over feed and he should be ok. good luck

I have had that exact same problem woth more than one fish i have to say. I think your sister is right if its what my fish had then it probly is fungus. You can get treatment probly at your local aquirium place (it dont work that well). Speak to the profesionals that would be best but dont leave it too long, thats the mistake i made-and it didnt turn out nice. But i hope all the best for you, hope you get the correct treatment and he pulls through ~GoOd LuCk~ xx#xx

It is called ich. it will kill your fish. Go to your pet store and buy Ich-Out or anytype of Ich medicine and it will treat and get rid of the Ich. It is dark blue and will severely dye your carpet if you should drop it on the floor.
