No. I think many look at it as an upset because the Tigers stumbled to the finish of the regular season, and 2) the national medias fascination with anything Yankee. When in fact the Tigers were the better team. Why? Pitching. The tigers have a stable consistant rotation and a lights out bullpen. The Yankees have wang as the only consistant starter and in the pen the only two Torre trusted using were Farnsworth and Rivera

Yes, it was an upset. Big? Maybe for all those media hypes in NY.
It was an upset only because everyone was thinking they were The Tigers of years gone by. JIm Leyland is the reason they are where they are.

I was afraid of that yankee line-up. Who wouldn't have been? But I knew if our pitching stayed focused they would have a chance. I thought it would go 5, glad it didn't.

I've seen these Tigers play all year, and I could see that they were for real. That "swagger" they have, that look in thier eyes.

No , I dont think it was that much of an upset. The Yankees may spend all the money, but they dont have the intangibles that the Tigers or A's have to win in the playoffs. Too many prima donnas on the Yankees and it is poetic justice every time they choke. Teams like the Tigers, Twins and A's prove you dont have to spend 200 million on salaries to be a World Series hopeful or even a WS champion.

no and heres why,, back 3 mos before the minn twins got hot, the tigers were almost 8 games better than anyone in mlb,, and free sailing,, then they had to start lookin over their shoulder,,, now that thats all behind them,, they are able to focus on who theyre playing and get back to basics,, they may have been 5-2 vs yankees in regular season,, but 3 of those wins by yankess were by 1 run,, in the post season the tigers started making up for lost runs and put the pressure on the yanks,, and it showed yesterday by all the bone head plays they were making,, it may or may not have made a difference if giambi played cuz he was a measley 1 for 8 so he wasnt doing anything either,,, now they can focus on Oakland and when they beat them,, then they can focus on Breakin Ny ers hearts twice in less than a month !!!!hey and the yankees werent doing much in the last month of the season either,,, heres and idiology that would sum it up,, its like the little kid on the playground who kicks the big kids A S S ,, because he outwitted him w/ his brain,, brain is always better than brawn ,, thats why the kid won and thats why the yankees will be watching,,, also,, ny is the largest media market in the world and are spoiled,, detroit is not the largest,,, when ny anything makes the playoffs they tout them like there god,, but a lot of gods are not the best, and have been defeated,, detroit had the best pitching in MLB and ny had best hitting,, it takes brains to pitch and brawn to hit,,, thus the addage of brains vs brawn,, case in point ,,,NY out,, Detroit moving on,, get over it ny,, root for the mets so when we play and beat them you can be disappointed again !!!!!

Definitely. Everytime the Yankees lose a series in the playoffs it is a big upset. I feel for them, and I'm a Red Sox fan. I'm not a fanatical fan of any team though so I still look after other teams. (Your favorite team isn't yor favorite team without the other teams in the game... think about it...)

Unfortunately I did, but I should have given them more credit. They are a great team! Sorry to all the Tigers fans for giving up on them before they even played.

It was an upset, only that they swept the series.
I thought the Yankees could have won at
least 1 game, with a 200 million dollar payroll.

Buy the way, Joe Torre, get your bags packed!

All I know is that all the Mets fans here in Manhattan are all drinking themselves silly and giving each other high fives. I don't think there's a better way to describe how big the upset was.

All the yank fans here thought it was going to be a sweep for sure.
