It is worse than that, because most of the jobs aren't even necessary. And the ones that are, are probably carried out inefficiently.

You'll probably find that the position has to be advertised for it to be filled - this doesn't mean that the position won't be filled from friends or relatives, but at least 'due process' will have been followed and everyone will have had a 'fair' chance to apply for the job, as it has been advertised.

You have directed this question at Yahoo answers. In the same spirit ask the council. They advertise ..they have friends in ad. agencies and some kickback there. It goes on and on. Even the UN oil for food is a racket eh ?

All this to close the eyes of the local dummies.

The employment laws state that the job must be advertised...So they advertise it...and still give the job to friends or family...Crazy I know.. but the laws in this country are made up by a bunch of pencil pushers who have no common sense whatsoever!

You are not the only person who suspects that Council positions are chosen corruptly.

It is about time stronger measures were taken to prevent the nepotistic practices that exist in these organisations and that encouraged the selection of candidates purely on their ability to do the job required for the good of the community that they serve.
