I've just left home for university and my ipod contains all my music on my computer @ home but i've installed itunes on my laptop @ uni and my laptop doesn't contain my music @ home. if i tried to update my ipod, would it remove all the songs on my ipod? also i guess i could i start afresh but i wouldn't want to lose most of my songs and i also do not want to use limewire on the university network.

if you want to put songs and other stuff in your ipod without having the others deleted, click on 'manually manage songs and playlists' on your ipod options (right-click on your ipod in itunes). if the 'automatically update songs and playlists' option is the one selected in your ipod right now, chances are your itunes won't even let you put new songs in your ipod (unless you allow it to) when you connect it to your laptop because it's programmed for your computer at home.

and then after selecting "manually manage songs and playlists", just drag the songs or videos from your itunes library to your ipod. you can copy-paste them too, if you want.

hope that helps! that's what i do.

Yes, you're iPod would be deleted if you tried to update from a blank iTunes. There are programs that can recover your songs off the iPod, but they mangle the names of the songs pretty badly. Your best bet is to find a way to burn your songs from home onto a DVD and have them mailed to you for you laptop.

If you just plugged your iPod into your laptop yes you'd lose all the songs on it. But there are applications that you can download that will transfer the music over. Go to www.versiontracker.com and take a look at what's there.

I used something called PodMaster when my iMac hard drive died and i had to replace it, and there are applications that do a similar things for PCs.

Good luck.

ummm yeah i think you woulld lose all your songs. but i think there is a program you get so you dont or you press a button or something. i also think that with the new version of itunes, it might transfer your songs from your ipod to your computer, but im not totaly sure.

My sister lost all of her songs when she id wat u did. what she did was leave it alone awile. but then it didnt work so she had to take the old hard drive out of storage and put it back into the laptop to get all of her songs back!! wat i think you should do is download all the songs from your home computer into the one that you have now so if you do happen to lose your songs than they will be rite their in your other computer waiting to be put back into your ipod!LOL --
hope this worked,

Yeah it would remove your songs if you update it automatically. You have to do manual updates.
