I bought an apple variety the other day and it was called El Tex. Is it new or a mix of older varieties?

Actually, my wife says it was called El Star; so I could have been mistaken. It is a very good eating and baking apple.

I haven't heard of an apple variety in the past 25 years that is not the result of hybridizing older varieties. Unless theis is some break-through in science it's a hybrid.
