It should work, I have the same set up. Its not a true network, but a shared connection through a router.

If I'm understanding you correctly, no, it won't work. You can't connect the router to your PC via USB and have the PC act as a server to feed the Internet to the router.
Even if it would, that's doing it the hard way. Why not just connect the router to the modem, then plug your computer into one of the ethernet ports on the router and use the wireless USB adapter to connect your sister's computer?
How good a wireless connection you'll get depends on a lot of different factors. You'll just have to try it and see - there's no way anyone can predict how good a signal you'll get without trying it. Things like walls, cordless phones, and flourescent lights can all affect wireless networking.

What you bought should work in allowing you to have internet in your room and internet in the other room with speeds slightly faster than cable because it's a radio wave good for 200 feet and through walls and it will IF!!! you can get it to re connect, but... I'll b glad to help u with this thing! I bought the same NETGEAR "G" router and adapter and for the first i set up...it said "set-up of this router could take up to20 min". It took me 12 minutes to install the router I said GREAT! I couldn't install the adapter in the other room for anything. I had to go on line, register the thing and then go back into the other room and call Tec help and he walked me through it although it was a nightmere of a time due to the Tech having a very strong accent and he was getting tired of me saying"WHAT!!! DID YOUSAY?" and I was getting tired asking him to repete himself because "I CAN'T UNDESTAND YOU!! IS THERE AN AMERICAN THAT WORKS THERE?" We got through it and I set that roughter up 5 or 6 more times since then, each getting harder and harder. this last time I went through the set up 8 times and it just wouldn't go! I gave up and bought a 50 foot eithernet cable, ran it through the attic and here I am. A eaither net cable works better than a USB cable from the router to the computer and vis e vrsa and in this case, there was no reason why this router didn't work!! even going through the steps in the order just like they say... Bottom line.. you can have the one that I have. here's your advise, call the tehc and ask for an american to walk you through it.

Why bother with a router then? You would simply be connecting 2 pcs together with intenet connection sharing for one, for another, you would need the primary pc turned on for the secondary to connect to the net.....why waste the money on all that usb crap when all you have to do is connect the router to the modem and purchase a cheap wireless card for sisters pc? It would be easier to set up, far cheaper, and not so apt to give you problems!

You will connect your ADSL or cable modem to the router, set up a firewall and a 128-bit WEP code in the router for network security. Install the adapter per instuctions, type in the same 128-bit WEP code when required and you should be in buisness.

and then ask them where you set up a wpa-security key dont use a 128bit wep key ask to use a wpa- security that is your router security key and you pick the wpa-security key not your (isp)server . just ask them where you set one up they will say use a wep-key ..ignore them you say your going to use a wpa.key and want to know how to set one up and remember you pick the wpa-key not your (isp)server or they will use your network
now you close off the page
