It wasn't in an envelope or anything. It was just lying there.

If it was outside a store you may want to go in and ask if anyone reported losing some money but do not say how much it was cuz then someone in the store can say "oh yes I just lost $20". Otherwise you can keep it but it would be nice to give some of it to charity.

No such thing as sin. It's purely a religious concept for priests to beat the faithful over the head with. An action is either appropriate or inappropriate. You might take the money into the nearest police station, to see if someone claims it, and if they don't it's yours, if a copper hasn't pinched it (cynical me). Or you might put a notice on a community board - but then you wouldn't know if the claimant was genuine. Or you could give it to a good cause. Or you could just keep it, and the next time you lose something yourself say "what comes around goes around" and proceed without regret.

Sin or not is no issue for me.

Keep it by all means, but just remember you had to stoop to pick it up.

Since you know you haven't earned it, you would perhaps feel less guilty and more rightful passing it on to some needy person than spending it on yourself. If not, do whatever, but remember you can't cheat yourself.

But then a lot of us have learnt that act as well, i.e. to be the cheater as well as the cheated.

Lets take the idea of the platos allegory the ring of gyges. Would you keep the money if you were invisable and no one could see you picking it up. Do you believe it is a sin because society wants you to think so or is it a personal belief. should a person act on societies beliefs or on personal values? What do you think you should do with the money. In your heart is it wrong to keep it, or do you only have doubts beacaue of societal values?

Jim-Bob Chapter 8 verse 5:
And thou shalt not keepeth any money that thou should findeth on the side of the roadeth, lest thou would burneth in the blazes of Timbuktoo for eternity after death.

...

Why the blazes WOULD it be a sin? If you're THAT worried about it, give it to charity.

I believe in karma, so you must of done something good for someone..and the universe just paid you back. Spend it on a good cause and maybe next week you'll find 50 bucks!

No. Whether or not it is a sin lies in the way you're going to use it. If you were to use it in a manner that causes harm to others, then it is a sin. If you used it to help someone, e.g. donating it to a charity organisation, you did no sin.
