For different people the essence of life is different. For some people it is like-
"Subha hoti hai Shaam hoti hai umar yunhi tamaam hoti hai"
which means we come in this world and after passing our determined time period we pass away.
And for some it is an opportunity to do as much good Karma(deeds) as possible because we never know when we will have to leave this materialistic body and than we will lose the opportunity to do good Karma. Only human beings have been given the opportunity to do good Karma. So why not use this opportunity to do out best for mankind.

to answer the mostly bag of water with several trace element and nuclear peptides combined in an symbiotic relationship to form a centiant being, possibly generated or created in an extraterestrial labratory, or some form of omnipitant entity, or perhaps as an attempt by ancestors of a superior technological race to form an agrerian society on a dead world, or any other number of unknown factors, however the best suggestion i've heard is that terrans were created by the earth in order to produce plastic and hydrocarbons in order to cause an greenhouse effect to allow the planet it's self to become sentiant, with some parasites known as terrans, untill such time as it decides to make us extinct, just like the dinosaurs. think about all of the different possibilities and/ or parralell possibilities.

That's quite a question dear: It would require more than just a light explanation, I would suggest you to start reading, first Darwin, after move on to Karl Sagan "The dragons of the Eden" and finally move to some classical books, philosophy mainly, and there you will formulate your own point of view about life, it would do much to your temper and your social feed back, but if does no work.
Take my opinion, man is here for working, and joying.

Experience. All living things experience something, whether they are conscious of it or not. We are lucky, because we can think about what we experience, and if we have the wit, use that to extend our experience and expand the significance of it - like learning to appreciate the world around us, or love, or music ... and so it goes on. We can even acquire some insight into ourselves and "other". And maybe even wisdom to know what to do with it. Lucky us. Why do we use that capability so poorly! I suppose, because we're only human.

Because if we didn't exist, there would be no-one to watch television - and then the television companies wouldn't make any money.
