teddy bear hamster. any full size hamster is better than the dwarf variety. dwarfs are notorious for biting and being mean. i work at a pet store and we don't even sell dwarf hamsters anymore. yeah there can be some nice ones, but but i'd say like 10 out of 100. the full size hamsters can bite too, but most of them are handle-able. just make sure your able to handle before you take it home.

The Teddy bear hampster once it gets to know you can be very friendly. But the long fur makes for a very big mess especially when they get there urine and other stuff stuck in it and your stuck pulling it out. The dwarf hamspter being the smalliest part of the hampster family is very friendly and love to hide in your pockets. The down side to them is they get scared very easily and will bite you if you startle them. Hope this helps you out. Other sides to dwarf is that they really don't need a really big habitat to live due to there size.

Teddy bear urine and feces have a stronger odor. Teddy Bear live a little longer. Dwarf female bites the least when handled. Dwarfs are also prone to getting sebaceous cysts when they are seniors. I prefer the female dwarf hamster. Only buy a hamster from a store that sells carrys just ONE sex of every breed hamster or you will bring home pregnant hamster.

I have come to find that teddy bear hamsters have a much better temperment then dwarf hamsters. I got teddy bear hamsters for my kids-a two year old and a one year old. My neighbor who has a 4 year old and a 2 year old got dwarf hamsters because she thought they would be nicer. My teddy bear hamsters were great with my kids, never bit them or anything. The dwarf hamster never would let anyone pick it up or pet it.

I do have to agree with another answer that said make sure you get one from a store that sells only one sex. I bought mine from a store that sold both-in seperate cages-but one was unnoticeably pregnant when we bought it. So buy with caution.

well if you want a loving hamster that you can play with get teddy bear you will regret getting a dwarf many pet stores have stopped selling them because no one wants a mean red beady eyed demon hamster

Somewhere there's someone,
who dreams about your smile,
and finds in your presence,
that life is worth while,
so when you are lonely,
remember it's true,
*somebody somewhere*
is thinking of you

Please. . . . . . HAMSTER (NO "P")

Teddy bear hamsters seem friendlier in my experience and we have had both as pets.
