The culture of corruption and cover-up has been the Republicans' problem for years. Two Republican Congressman have pleaded guilty to corruption, and investigations are ongoing into the scandal surrounding Republican lobbyist Jack Abramoff.
That same culture reaches into the states, where Republican governors in places like Ohio and Kentucky have been indicted -- the Republican governor of Ohio even pleaded no contest to violating ethics laws.
Republican Congressman Mark Foley's inappropriate contacts with minors were the worst kind of abuse of power. Despite the Republicans' desperate damage control efforts, what America's parents see is a man who took advantage of children, and a Republican leadership that refused to act aggressively to fix the problem.
And we're learning more every day about Republican Leaders' failure to live up to the responsibilities of their own power, as revelations of a cover-up reach all the way up to Speaker Dennis Hastert.
Whether the scandal is on Capitol Hill or in the state capitol, Americans everywhere know that it's time for new leadership.
Whether it's failing to ask the hard questions about sending our troops to war or failing to protect us here at home, America cannot afford to trust a Republican leadership whose response to every crisis the nation faces is to sweep it under the rug.
The Republican culture of corruption and cover-up has reigned for too long.
Democrats are ready to lead. So as the Republicans walk towards the exit sign. We say “Exit stage left, it's a wrap”!!!!!

All of these doomstay scenarios for the GOP seem a little presumptious to me. After 9/11 the growth of the evangelical christian movement exploded and the religious right has not turned away from the Republican party even if they have took some shots at the whitehouse and other republicans and their misdeeds. Even if you look at the polls, most of the congressional races are very tight. This despite the mess in Iraq, the stagnant economy, the loss of thousands of manufacturing jobs, the foley scandal, etc.

I think the notion of the democrats regaining control of the house and the senate is far fetched, I think they will pick up some seats but I'm starting to believe these doomstay scenarios is just wishful thinking on the part of liberal columnists.

Its typicla from a bias site but open eyed inteligent people realize that in order to keep a balance (which is the most successful setup or system has) democrats and republicans have to remain in balance, tipping the scale 180 just will make everything lopsided in the other direction, with an even controled government it creates checks and balances, the democratic party needs this win in this election or they might as well scurry into corners or disband, we as a country need to keep the checks and balances going but with a democrat congress that means another 4 yrs republican President,

The GOP takeover of American politics hasn't been a revolution; it's been a backlash. A backlash against all social progress in America, a backlash against a more fair distribution of the wealth created by the workers, a backlash against The Enlightenment!

The End of the GOP's madness, destruction, and incredibly shallow values could not have come soon enough.

It's about time! The GOP has been in power for way too long. With the mid-terms a month away, it's time for the Republicans to just pack it in and let the Democrats take back Congress. For too long, I have digested more than enough of their freaking politics!!!!!!!!
