Assalamu'Alaikum
It's because people are ignorant, and do not try to find out what the basis of Islam is all about. They assume what they read in the media is true, and judge the actions of a minority, who in return do give Islam a bad name. Only the bad stuff get reported, but that's not much of a suprise, seeing as how the big companies are owned by Rupert Murdoch, who is a known Islamaphobe. However, why is it that the religion is always the first to blame?
Jazak'Allah Khair for reading this.

I do not feel the need to research other peoples religion,to know already that Islam and Muslims go together, and it is some Muslims that have high jacked their religion to promote violence against the people of other religions, indoctrinating brainwashing to make some Muslims into believing that by strapping bombs to themselves and killing themselves and as many other innocent people with them and believing it is right and a proper thing to do which in turn promises them 14 doe e eyed virgins waiting for them, ive had enough sod the lot of them

i don't think people of other religions hate Islam but rather they fear Muslims. I think this is understandable in a world climate where Muslims are presented as terrorists. There aren't a lot of prominent, positive ambassadors for the faith. The only admirable Muslim I ever heard of was Ghandi. Now, that is due to my own ignorance. I know there must be many thousands of positive Muslim role models, I just don't know where or who they are. Further, Christians are accustomed to consider themselves as part of a group, and most of those groups are based on hierarchy. There is no apparent such system in Islam. If your religion teaches that Islam is one state and Dar-al-Harb is everything else and that Dar-al-Harb is evil and to be avoided, can it be any surprise that when non-Muslims hear this they take offense and become defensive and offensive re Muslims?
Your religion teaches that nonMuslims are to be tolerated and left unharmed, but it also states that nonMuslims are potentially and probably godless and evil. How can nonMuslims embrace this and be accepting? It will take a long time for these problems to be resolved. I only hope that in my daily life I treat everyone with respect, compassion, empathy, wisdom and patience.
by the way, the religon of Islam as represented by the Koran and scholarly teaching is not the religion of most Muslims any more than the religion of Christianity is represented by most Christians. We are all human and all prone to failure, which is the reason religious systems are established to begin with.
There are probably more than a few Muslims who are having a problem with their religion, too. Certainly, as a Catholic, I have many problems with my Church.
researching Islam will not help you to understand Muslims any more than studying the Catholic Church will help you to understand Catholics.
Personally, I despise any culture which treats its women and girls the way Muslim women are treated. I despise any culture which teaches their children that only their faith is to be tolerated.
I despise any culture which seeks to control its people with fear and domination rather than inclusion.
The Muslim faith, as it is practiced in Islamic countries, is not exactly a model for world peace. Perhaps it is in the Koran, but something certainly gets lost in the translation. Unless and until Muslims can have societies which at least try to be just, the rest of the world will mistrust them.

because fear creates hate and muslims(extreme) are the no.1 terrorists right now. It's not the religion that is hated but the extremists that call themselves muslim.Muslims have a pr problem right now If I was a leader of Islam I would strongly denounce all terrorist activityand try to sort out the growing image problem. The bottom line is that the bombers today are calling themselves islamic and doing it in the name of allah

Not just other superstitions (sorry, religions). Even atheists recognise the dangers of islam.
It's based on false premises as mohommed wrote it to enable him to undertake wars of conquest. That still holds true in that the mohommedan ideal is a world caliphate and sharia law for all. Forced conversion or death are the choices.
Of course, they'll deny that, at least, until they're in the majority or have all the guns. Of course that's OK since the koran says it's good to lie to non-mohommedans.

I think the image of Islam has been overshadowed by extremists, just as the image of Christianity has been overshadowed by extreme fundamentalists. When people create fear in the name of any religion, it spawns lots of negative energy. Hopefully most of us know that just as in any religion, the fundamentals are good. Fear is such an easy emotion to stir up, and lack of education combined with people using a religion to promote their own personal or political agendas on all sides fuels the fear.

Because I think we're beyond being irritated by the demands and offensive behaviour of all religious extremists, to be truthful. We used to regard Muslims as part of our society to be respected and tolerated. However, they disrespect us and then try toconvince us that Islam is a peaceful religion! It's like saying that women wear the burkha because they want to! The world is rapidly coming to realise that extremism isn't a joke anymore - it's dangerous. And no, I'm not going to research any propoganda. I wish you would open your eyes to how people see you, stand up and condemn the murderers in your midst, support your country and let us respect you for what you are - a person first and a Muslim second. God doesn't need help to fight his battles. If he is as powerful as he says he is, he doesn't need people to blow themselves and other innocents, to bits to prove a point.

I don't...but then again I don't follow a religion.
Most religions are exclusive and suggest that ALL others are wrong and only they will be saved...its a bit stupid really. Our media (in the west) are being urged to stir up hatred. It sells more news. It's important that we all make sure that not everyone hates Islam. That would only be counterproductive.

There must be non violent Muslims, but they never turn in the violent ones. It isn't Christians who bombed the tube or the Bali nightclub, or brought down the World Trade Center. As much as Jews are hated, they haven't participated in suicide bombings in France, or issued death sentences for authors they don't like.
Its time Muslims looked at what is being done in their name and decided whether or not they will stand with the terrorists or turn them in.
