And, is it suggested that I have an education (or training) in a medical field if I want to get into either of these careers?

It is suggested and highly necessary to get education and training in both fields. In coding, you need to know the CDT codes and meanings of each; in transcription, you basically need to know all about medical terminology, anatomy, Rx information, etc. and be able to type fast. Most transcription companies will not hire you unless you have some type of education or previous experience. I'm not sure about medical coding as I have never worked doing this before, so I don't quite know what education/experience you need to do this.

A transcriptionist, takes dictation, regularly recorded, from a doctor and kinds up the affected individual contact " exam" for the clinical archives. someone who codes, deals with well being coverage and procedures that were performed. Its major to code the technique wisely, or coverage wont pay and the bill falls again on the affected individual.

A transcriptionist, takes dictation, usually recorded, from a doctor and types up the patient contact " exam" for the medical records. A person who codes, deals with health insurance and procedures that were done. Its important to code the procedure correctly, or insurance wont pay and the bill falls back on the patient.
