I recently had a rock waterfall made in my back yard during the summer, its not to very large. but i stuggled with it all summer from keeping the water from turning green, i dont have any fish in it so i tried to put pool shock in it, it seem to try to work then a few days later would be even darker green. I drained it one weekend and cleaned it. that seem to work the best but took several hours to do. several hours that i dont usually have. i just wondered if their may be so sort of better chemical other than pool chemicals to work with on the market

sounds to me like you have a flow rate problem. Green water is a result of algea growing in your water. this usualy occurs in stagnate or slow moving water. In very few occasions it will occur in faster moving water if the volume is greater then the flow. What you have for options is to install a filter, Place clorine disks or my personal suggestion is to increase the flow rate. this means that you need to get a bigger pump and may need to replace the flow line to the top of your waterfall. Depending on how these item were installed you may be looking at some money to have them replaced, However in some cases the company that put it in for you will replace it if you can prove that it is defective or that it is the cause of the algea growth. Putting a lot of chemicals into you waterfall should be your last resort and usualy you can correct the problem by flow or in some cases plants, you might want to think about that as well. good luck

From where I am sitting it sounds like a circulation prob.
If you are satisfied with the volume of water coming over the falls and it would be too much if you added a larger pump, then go to your local pond supply house and ask for a circulation pump. Its just a small submersible pump you put in the pond area to keep the water moving out of the corners and crevices.
Also add a chlorine block to the top and bottom of you feature.

(note......we contractors are good at sellin these things because it is all glamorous and all, but like everything else landscape......its a lot of work maintaining.)

Call your local pool cleaning service to see what a bi-weekly service would run you, might be worth it aye?
