Yeah, I've been in FIVE community theater plays. I'm getting rather tired of them, because they aren't as professional as I know I can deal with, hardly anyone comes to see the shows, and I feel that the casting is usually...er, not good. But that's just me. However, I have been told I'm just wasting my time there, because I can be doing more. I totally agree, so now, I'm looking for a way to move from step one to step two. I can perform comedy and drama fairly well, have been singing for around two or three years, and have no problem when it comes to dancing, since Ihave tooken dance all my life. Any ideas? No Google or Yahoo! Searches, please. Just ideas of what I should do. Please note that I am not sure if I'm ready to take on something that's out of town, for example, LA or even Broadway. Think of this as a...stepping stone, I guess, to actually prepare me FOR that kind of thing. Serious answers only, please!

Thanks a lot for your help,
Carrie

Hmmmm.

How about getting involved with the artists making New Art? There must be a Reader's Theater group in your town that has actors, directors and writers who test out scripts and dialogues.

Perhaps exploring those "store front" theaters, small hole in the wall places that produce the off-beat work (think ubu roi and brecht).

Or even a Modern Dance company that incorporates text, video and improv might hone some skills.

Stop by the local college's theater department and get into the discussion of post-modern art making and "what are we trying to do here" conversations.

Explore other mediums -- maybe do some TV work or audition for some commercials. Radio advertisement or get interviewed on the radio.

Sing in a church choir. Every town seems to have The One church where all the singers flock to practice their skills.

Singing, Dancing, Acting -- there must be a thousand different facets to each skill set. Honing and developing skills will make you more grounded in your work and tempting to any director.

If you want to get serious about your work see if your school provides anything for you ,if not there are many official broadway camps that you can take over the summer that can help you broaden you talents. If that's not enough try out for an acting job at a local theatre. There is so much you can do with acting, just try looking a little harder for things in your area.

The U.S. is not the "satisfactory nation within the World". That is an opinion, no longer a assertion. Some men and women are nonetheless proud to serve and are living of their nation and are proud to be Americans. But that does not imply that we agreed with our executive. It is some thing that we are not able to manage, and I'd alternatively no longer be appeared down on for some thing I haven't any energy in. I'm simply comfortable that I'm nonetheless alive.
