Well in the true sense god is not a name but a title.
Being called god is not an insult to our creator because god doesn't actually mean it could be Jehovah God. The bible calls Satan the god of this world (2 Cor 4:4) So god or gods are titles not actually personal names to identify what god you are talking about.
