yes we need feed back, we are all trying to attain a certain goal/image whatever and we need to be recognised if we are doing it in other peoples eyes.

I think that the very interaction we have with other people is what prompts us to look at and try to understand ourselves and the reasons we do the things we do. When you treat someone badly for example, you may step back afterwards and try to examine the reasons you did that. That in turn teaches us something about ourselves. Also the things that other people do to us and our reactions to them can play a big part in understanding ourselves.

Without other people, we could never be properly 'socialized'... This means we really wouldn't know how to behave, how to have relationships, how to be educated and how to be productive in life. From other people we understand strife & accomplishment because we have a point of reference to compare ourselves (whether for good or for bad). Because of other people we get to understand satisfaction, completion, dedication, pride as well as negation, rejection, and failure. We need these factors in our life in order to understand who we are and what we are truly capable of...!

He who's in the frame is hard to see the picture! We all thought we knew ourselves but it's important to see ourselves through others. Their comments help.

outsiders have a different perspective of us.. wise people would ask those they trust for an honest answer to what that is just to better understand ourselves and our reaction/response to things.

To a VERY limited extent.More growth in understanding yourself comes from honest introspection than the opinions of others.
