In Maine, I do not know how other states are handling smoking, We are not allowed to smoke in restaurants, Bars or any other public buildings. I am a smoker and I am alright with this. We do not smoke in our own house for the safety of our children. However, taking away the peoples right to damage their own body with a legal form of a drug would be going against our constitutional rights. They will probably never ban smoking totally, they receive to much tax money from it, seems the cheapest smokes around here are no less than $4 a pack. However I think it should be illegal for consumers to sue the tobacco companies for damage they have inflicted upon themselves. Smoking is a bad thing but its still the right of the consumer to do it.

rebellion ; for the most part ; but those who cannot their heads round that if the good lord wanted us to smoke he would have installed an ashtray instead of lungs . but there are winners on the way ; here in Queensland smoking in pubs and clubs is banned for the benefit of the workers and those other patrons who do not smoke , in case they suffer from passive smoking , which is nearly if not worse than smoking the fags themselves .
it will happen (banning ) eventually , so hang in there .

As a smoker I say screw you for banning something that is a legal substance like alcohol to buy if you are of age.
You anti smokers all are a**holes if you try to ban something like that. It is OUR bodies and OUR choice if we smoke, so stfu already.

although we know the dangers that smoking can cause a fairly horrendous death, foolish humans still believe that free will to do the wrong thing is our god given right.... and they are correct...
Taxes are one reason.. lobbies groups and political ties are another..

The solution is.......Any person who chooses to smoke cigarettes should lose their health insurance..... the majority of people who don't smoke should no longer have to bare the burden of those who do...IE in the form of higher costs for health insurance.
