Because it has turned out to be a stupid holiday in which children are encouraged to beg, or sometimes blackmail people to give or be vandalized. It was originally All Hallows Evening, to honor all the saints. How it turned into the current mishmash is a mystery to me, but as long as big business can profit from the suckers, it will go on. I like the idea of the children dressing up and having a party or dance for the occasion.
